Wiki Specific Info

From Sfvlug

This wiki was created at using the same software developed for Wikipedia. SFVLUG is independent of all these institutions other than in using their tools. The advertisements are the price we pay for using their services and our only benefit from them is in having this site hosted with no out of pocket expense to any of our members. This is not to discourage you from donating to these nice folks, just to let you know that SFVLUG itself will not receive anything but a nice warm feeling. Please note that many of the folks including myself tend to write postings in first person. If a poster doesn't sign their contribution or otherwise identify themselves it may be a bit confusing as to who is making a statement. Contributions to the Code Vault are identified by user, and you can check the Special Pages to identify who made a specific contribution.

How To Edit This Wiki

Since we are using the MediaWiki software you can follow the same instructions in editing this one. If you need to access any advanced JavaScript or CSS go the the Header page to see what is available.

Guidelines For Posting

The purpose of this wiki is to share knowledge with others.

  • Please limit your posts to subjects related to GNU/Linux and open source computing. We have a broad and liberal interpretation of what is acceptable, but we do not tolerate spam. If you represent an open source commercial product there must be some benefit to our readers that goes beyond a pitch for a product or service. If in doubt please contact Brian at sfvlug dot org or bring it up for discussion at a membership meeting first.
  • Lively debate is encouraged, flame wars are not. Please be civil in all your postings. If don't know if what you intend to post would be considered to be civil by a reasonable person it is probably better not to post.
  • While there is an established structure to the wiki we encourage creativity as long as it serves a purpose. Please don't destroy someone else's work and replace it with your own.
  • As long as it is not offensive to a reasonable person and otherwise follows these guidelines you can create just about anything you like in you own personal space. Please be considerate of others when editing in the common areas.
  • Have fun!
